[Tested] BMD Ultrastudio Mini HD

Postby k0d » 01 Jun 2017, 17:32

I've managed to test out the new Ultrastudio Mini HD with CasparCG and can give an overview of my findings.

Connectivity
Thunderbolt 3 connectivity limits what I can test this with. I do have the new MacBook Pro though so was able to connect to that. It should be noted that the cable that comes with the MacBook Pro is NOT a thunderbolt 3 cable. I purchased this one https://www.kjell.com/se/sortiment/dator-natverk/kablar-adaptrar/thunderbolt/thunderbolt-3-kabel-0-5-m-p61391

Software/Drivers
I've tested this with MacOS and Windows 10 on the MacBook Pro. With the latest drivers, all included software works as expected. MimoLive, ProPresenter, Final Cut Pro all works as expected also. Internal/External keying was tested with ProPresenter.

Teranex Smart Panel
The screen works, but the buttons/dial don't do anything. Maybe BMD will add some features later as they normally do.

CasparCG
Now the most important findings! Of course CasparCG Server doesn't work in MacOS, so I tested it in Windows 10. Everything just worked as expected, no driver issues, no stability issues, no config issues. Internal/External Keying works just fine. I tested at 1080p50.

Future tests
I'd like to test 2 or more of them on the same machine, to see the performance of multiple channels.
