Audio clicks/pops with DeckLink Producer

Postby lgkwang » 09 Dec 2016, 09:06

Hello,

I have browsed through a couple threads on this forum discussing audio issues and don't seem to have found a recent answer about this. I'm trying to use CasparCG for a new project, and have set up my config file very simply, with one channel running at 720p5994 with a screen + system audio consumer.

Code: Select all
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<configuration>
  <paths>
    <media-path>media/</media-path>
    <log-path>log/</log-path>
    <data-path>data/</data-path>
    <template-path>template/</template-path>
    <thumbnail-path>thumbnail/</thumbnail-path>
    <font-path>font/</font-path>
  </paths>
  <lock-clear-phrase>secret</lock-clear-phrase>
  <channels>
    <channel>
      <video-mode>720p5994</video-mode>
      <channel-layout>stereo</channel-layout>
      <consumers>
        <screen>
          <device>1</device>
          <windowed>true</windowed>
        </screen>
        <system-audio></system-audio>
      </consumers>
    </channel>
  </channels>
  <controllers>
    <tcp>
      <port>5250</port>
      <protocol>AMCP</protocol>
    </tcp>
  </controllers>
</configuration>

Once I start the server, I can try "PLAY 1-10 DECKLINK DEVICE 1" and with a bars/tone generator going into a DeckLink Mini Monitor card, the video looks good but the audio tends to have clicking/popping noises.

The stable version 2.0.7 has more of this, I have tried the beta version 2.1.0 as well. The new beta version works pretty well (less problems than 2.0.7), although occasionally I can still hear some audio imperfections.

This is my system:

Code: Select all
OS Name:                   Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise
OS Version:                10.0.14393 N/A Build 14393
System Manufacturer:       ASRock
System Model:              Z170 Extreme3
System Type:               x64-based PC
Processor(s):              1 Processor(s) Installed.
                           [01]: Intel Core i7-6700 CPU
                                 Intel64 Family 6 Model 94 Stepping 3 GenuineIntel ~3408 Mhz
BIOS Version:              American Megatrends Inc. P1.10, 9/17/2015
Total Physical Memory:     16,329 MB
Available Physical Memory: 13,039 MB
Virtual Memory: Max Size:  19,273 MB
Virtual Memory: Available: 14,736 MB
Virtual Memory: In Use:    4,537 MB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 750 Ti

I am using the latest DeckLink driver, 10.8.4. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Thanks!

I don't know for sure, just an idea: Are you able to try this out with a Decklink as output also? As I think it could be a timing / sync issue with the screen consumer, because the screen has another framerate (60 fps?) as the input and Caspar needs to catch up from time to time.

You may also run into digital clipping problems. I had that ones with my decklink and some footage. The headroom of the decklink card is none existitent, so it tends to clip if the footage is to loud.

I fixed this by simply apply a master volume of 0.5 for the channel.
Code: Select all
mixer 1 mastervolume 0.5

cheers

Hey didikunz, thanks for the idea, that does make sense. My capture card is receiving 720p5994 so I set the output of the video card to 59 hertz. Unfortunately I still do hear clicks and pops in the audio. I will try using a decklink consumer instead of the screen consumer and report back. I noticed the following log messages when using LOG LEVEL debug:
