My name is Niklas P Andersson and I'm the lead developer of CasparCG, a role I've had since the very beginning in 2005 when CasparCG was just plain Caspar and had no flash-support or realtime rendering what so ever. We've come a long way since then, and I hope that we get to go a long way yet.

I'm also the moderator of some of these forums, so if you want to get in touch with me this is the right place.

I found CasparCG after a visit to SVT premises.

My hobby is to learn more and more about broadcast. I think that CasparCG is a great tool that I hope to try soon. Thanks and hope to keep in touch.

Hello I'm Niklas Forssén.
I work as tom and producer at a production company called 4-cast here in Stockholm.
We do a lot of work for SVT so I have used the caspar a couple of times (svt keeps a couple of them for external ob units).
I'm building a caspar soon, so that we can avoid the trips to pick up SVT's.
Really keen to learn how to make templates so that we can use it for other clients too. (youtube tutorials anyone?)

Hi

My name is Olle Soprani and i am the father of Caspar, both in real life (he is one of my sons) and as a software.
CasparCG is a manifestation of a dream, to have a Broadcast Graphics Server that does what a graphics designer and operator want.
None of the big CG systems makers wanted to listen, so we had to do it our selfs.

I am a Graphics Designer and System Developer at SVT.

I want to place a big thanks to Niklas, Andreas and Robert for all the grate work they have done in realizing my dream. And to Jonas for his devotion to CasparCG and this site.

I will not stop. ;)

Hi All Dev and Graphic Lover

im eko budi from indonesia
very lovely that i can find a flash CG application, its really help me to have someone to share
i had experiences make a flash base CG system, because of my station need some custom control

i had experiences with graphic machine like, Vizrt, Orad, Inscriber, and Dayang (i sold this system too)
and sometime we need just a simple CG system to make a custom control, and mostly not every
graphic machine solve that, and because i am freelance now, i help a lot of local/new TV station
with simple CG because of their request,( fill the content > take in > take out > next CG )

To Olle Soprani and the teams, keep your good work, cant wait for next release and development
may be i can share my experience and can give my support for you all

Hello!

My name is Niklas and I'm from Västerås, Sweden.

My experiences from broadcast and video-graphics are at the moment nonexistent. :)

Right now I'm studying at the mediaprogramme at Wenströmska Gymnasiet here in Västerås.

The broadcast industry and all of the different technical gear used really interests me, and it's kind of cool to be able to run the same system used in the World Cup-broadcasts, idents for Sweden's biggest TV-stations and for the Swedish election, in your own bedroom!

Right now, the "tv-avgift" really makes it worth it all!

'allo 'allo

My name is Stuart - I'm from Melbourne, Australia.

I currently work as a graphics operator (Deko 3000 & VizRT) for a tv station here (Seven Network). I also enjoy playing around with Python...

I was excited to see someone is doing an open-source VCG application as I'm a huge open source fan, and felt this was an area that only seemed to offer (very) expensive commercial options.

Haven't had much chance to play with the software as yet - I run Fedora Linux so I only have an XP virtual machine to test Caspar (Oracle virtualbox) and for some reason it doesn't seem to work. Anyway, I'm sure this is something I have (or haven't done) so not too concerned yet!

Looking forward to learning more about Caspar anyway & thanks for starting such a great project.

Cheer,
Stuart.

Hi!

My name is Yoran from Almere, the Netherlands.

I'm a video editor/director for Dutch national television and a huge fan of open source software. I think it's great that SVT is making this software with all its templates available as open source.

I believe that bigger audiences having access to professional tools like this leads to a greater creative use of television as a medium.

A big thank you for the developers!

I'm not really a programmer, but I would like to see if it's possible to get some traction among developers to create a web-based 24/7 scheduling/playout application that's able to send (networked) commands to one or several CasparCG-boxes.

A lot of community television stations around the world could profit from a solution like this. Also, consider the sheer awesomeness of being able to run your own TV-station from the comfort of your own house!

Hello guys.
I'm Federico Allegretti, and i'm the IT manager of an italian little local TV (Tele Galileo).

I'm active in the open source comunity (http://open.ternifestival.it/index.html) and in the local Linux User Group (http://www.ternignulug.org/).

I discovered Caspar surfing the net searching for an open source video server solution.

Maybe CasparCG is a bit overpowered for my needs. Today i'm using a simple Sigma Design's Netstream 4000 to read a playlist of mpeg files and matrix switcher commands (serial port).
Before discovering this awesome project I was thinking in using an hauppauge PVR 350 (hardware mpeg encoder and decoder) to drive a software i was writing under linux OS, but I promise i'll try Caspar in the next days :D

See ya.

PS: if i do not need HD output, could I use a good video out VGA card to experiment CasparCG? Thanks

Hi everyone!

I'm Joachim Koitsalu and I'm Project Manager at LGZ Broadcasting Tech in Stockholm, Sweden. We are currently developing on developing an isntant replay device which will be officially released in May (hopefully at the LLB convention in Stockholm).

Having been in contact with a few sports production companies we've heard about CasparCG and have grown interested in developing custom client softwares. We've sucessfully implemented the server and client and VM2010 software on a computer and are now looking at the VM2010 software. We are familiar with C# but not as familiar with datasets, datacollections and xml programming so we look forward learning more about this very interesting software see if we can emulate and develop a few programs of our own =)

p.s I'd gladly meet in person an discuss CasparCG and nerdy tech stuff with other enthusiasts in Stockholm.

Cheers,

Hi all,

I'm Vesa Peltola from jyväskylä, finland and we have small production team that does both offline video productions and live stuff, almost by accident we ended up doing live sports broadcasts for a pay-tv channel that broadcasts also finnish hockey main league...our speciality is american football though...
By surfing to casparcg site a while ago and trying it out, we aim to produce some really highQ stuff next summer...and also going to use it when shooting live at events for big screens locally and add nice graphics extras

A really nice thing was that the system is flash based, since we know it and after effects pretty well too :)

Hi there

My name is Stephen Neal. I'm a live studio/outside broadcast director at the BBC in London (mainly directing live factual television).

In a previous life (well it seems like it!) I was an R&D Engineer at Quantel in Newbury (in the days of Paintbox, Harry and Henry), and moved from R&D to production via graphics operating (Aston 3 / Caption / Motif and Slidefile - yes - this dates me...)

I'm also a bit of a geek - and enjoy building PCs for my own pleasure. (Including my most recent build, an i7 2600K with a Decklink SD I use with Prem Pro etc.)

Bizarrely, I'm also learning Swedish, so stumbling upon CasparCG was a bit like a perfect strom of my interests! It looks like a very impressive, practical solution.

Am interested in Open Source solutions to real-world broadcast problems, but can't claim to be that useful at coding (I haven't written commercial software in anger since 1993, and that was Pascal and Assembler...)
Views expressed here are entirely my own, and nothing to do with my employer.

That's a fun coincidence. You have a colleague up in Manchester (Andy Mace) that is also a bit involved in the project that I'm currently trying to learn some basic Swedish. ;)

I have interest in graphics and programming.
I found Casparcg searching for typedeko graphics card.
I experimented with server 1.8 and now 2.0 b3.
It is great. I made a simple custom client for cricket.
I am planning to link all my game clients to CAsparcg
which was earlier made for beehive's wasp3d.

Hi everyone!
My name is Anders Florinus and I "works" in the non-profit organization Västerås Tidtagning (Västerås Time Keeping). We work with timing for swimming.
In order to give participating families the opportunity to see the races at home, we have begun to send events via Bambuser on live.tidtagning.se. We originally had problems to display graphics with the results and more. To rent the equipment needed was too expensive.
In this situation we found CasparCG. To get the full benefits of this powerful tool, we asked Mälardalen University for help. A group of students from there have now helped us develop an automatic caspar client. The first test was done for a couple weeks ago and the official premiere takes place at the Nordic Youth Swimming Game (NUSS) in Västerås 4-5 February.
All this has become possible thanks to our sponsors AF Teknik, Olander Swim and Elektronik Mekanik.

Hi, I'm Andrea Basso and I'm a sport events manager. I'm also a consultant for TDS, a timing / TV graphics company that works mainly with running events (marathons, cross country, etc.).

My focus is mainly in the design of CG screens, while the actual programming (creating custom CG Client applications that are interfaced via TCP with the playout software) is done by another guy.

We need to set up an HD system for an upcoming live broadcast (we've done SD only until now) and we're evaluating to abandon the commercial platform we are using (not licensed for HD) and moving to CasparCG.

Re: Introduce yourself!

Postby Avoloreloxop » 24 Jan 2012, 15:10

I'm Alex Voorloop and I'm a voluntary cameraman at the local television station of Purmerend in The Netherlands, but when I began there I had no background in media what so ever, no training or education, just the feeling that I'd like to make TV.

Ever since the start of the first live television program (this was in 2008, I became a member of the local broadcasting station in 2009) we have been working with a title generator that was shipped along with our videomixer.
It's limited capabilities (It can only do animations via TGA sequences, no video and has only 1 layer) made us look at better alternatives and (because of our tight budget, also preferrably a free one.)

In the end of 2011 we started to suffer from repeatitive malfunctions in our playout system and we started to look for something else.
This is where CasparCG came looking around the corner.

Since the 12th of Januari 2012 we have been using CasparCG to replace our title generator and are still looking at ways to replace our current Playout system with it.

Hi, I've been on this forum for a few months and think its time for me to tell you something about me. I'm Niclas Hallgren and I work as a Technical Operations Manager at the Department of Business Administration, Media and Technology in Arcada - University of Applied Sciences, Helsinki.

We're running our own cable-tv channel in the capital area (around 340 000 households connected) with mainly student produced movies but also news like happenings, city council meetings and so on. We have been running the channel since 2006 and our vision is now to replace all of our playout/cg servers with CasparCG.

We have a small tv-studio with possibiliteis to broadcast live with a few robot cameras and some XDCAM EX cameras all in HD (CasparCG will soon handle all the graphics for that also). For educational use we also have a 14m long fully equipped OB trailer (SD) that we bought from the Finnish Broadcasting company (YLE) last year. Short news story (and a picture) about it (in swedish) here: http://www.arcada.fi/fi/node/1349

The OB trailer will also be equipped with CasparCG :)

Introducing Hans Willemsen

Postby hans willemsen » 18 Nov 2012, 20:42

Hello,

my name is Hans Willemsen. I am senior application engineer at DNW in the Netherlands.
DNW owns a series of wind tunnels in Germany and the Netherlands. The biggest wind tunnel
in europe is located near Emmeloord in the north-east polder.
We are upgrading our video system to a HD-SDI system. Our customers like to have on-line data
keyed over a videostream coming from a camera.

We are going to use CasparCG and Declink HD extreme 3D cards for that purpose, which is a fantastic flexible program!
The first development server is there, next is to write a software specification for a client program.
But for that purpose it is necessary to know CasparCG a little bit more!

Thanks for CasparCG for all you from the SVT Caspar team!

Hi Hans, welcome!

Exiting to hear about your use of CasparCG! I know there are some other users that are also looking in to using real-time telemetry overlays, such as SpaceX.

Hi,

my Name is Chrissi and I'm from Germany.
I'm pretty new to broadcast and video stuff but getting into it.

I'm mainly an IT man, but also part of a team which is providing lanpartys (e-Sports events) and interactive services (christian) through out the internet.
Interactive means, that it's not just a TV service broadcasted over ip, but a service where you could be part of, asking questions, giving your thoughts or just voting the said good or bad.

For I'm the technical leader of the project, called sublan (see facebook.com/sublan or sublan.de, sublan.tv), I had to get into all the streaming (including cdn), vison mixing and cg stuff.

For the last 3 events, we used a projector software for the playout stuff. But I never was very happy about it. Then, for our last event i bought an ATEM TVS switcher and through their forum, I heard of casperCG.
I'm pretty happy because it's a great peace of sw and I'm very attracted to opensource and open platforms.

I plan to use casperCG for all playouts, bugs and lower thirds and building a simple production rack for all, Streaming, recording, playout and visonmixing.

I will try to help developing a nice playout client too and hope that my programming skills will be of help to the community.

Thanks to svt and the casperCG for giving us such a great software.

Cheers

Welcome!

I believe you are familiar with Dreamhack that have used CasparCG for their last three or four big events. IGN is also active in the forum, but I'm not sure they have started using it in production yet.

Don't miss the IRC channel #CasparCG on freenode.net where you can also find many of the most active community members!

Hi,
My Name is Tobias and I implemented CasparCG for Screening Purposes in the, so called, Production-Laboratory of the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg, Germany.
Our first big Film-Festival "Flimmer Fest" was run on CasparCG with a DeckLink. All Attempts to solve a vsync-problem on DVI-output of the nvidia-card failed, so SDI output was necessary to feed the FullHD-Projector. Unfortunately no Software was able to play different Video-Sources via SDI without encoding all the footage in one single Format... So i found CasparCG.. and smiled! ;)
Thank you all for your great Work on this Project!!

Hi,

My name is Bojan Agatić, I'm from Croatia and i lived in Sweden for 4 years (1993-1997) and still have family living there. Great country!
I work at a small local television, OTV, as technical director in Zagreb.

I found this fabolous project by searching sourceforge.

My plan is to develop a fully funcional opensource replacement for airbox and end their expensive tyranny :)
Joke, well with the power of casparcg the possibilities are endless so i have already crossed airbox in my future projects.

I'm using it for broadcasting live sports events (futsal, football, volleyball) with simple but very stylish and effective automatic graphics.

Currently my projects are closed for the public because of the contract have with clients but they will end soon so i will publish my work.

Current project that i'm working on active is playout app based on Vimlesh app.

Great suff and a great way to spend free time!

Cheers!

My name is Steve Kennedy. I am a high school technology teacher in the USA. I teach media and engineering classes. Our school has the announcements delivered through the school's CCTV. I am interested in a smooth news crawl for scrolling text highlights. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
