I'm proud to announce that the completely new version of Template Generator 2.0 (formerly known as "FT Generator 1.8") is now available for download.

This new version lets you copy generated templates to CasparCG Servers, control their playback and more, directly from within Flash Professional.

We're calling this release a beta version, but it is the same version that was used to create all the Flash templates for both SVT's new Channel Branding & End-Credit Squeeze and for the newly rebranded news show Aktuellt.

Hi
Today I made some tests with the new server and template generator everything works fine, and I managed to have Greek Fonts on my layout.(I dont know the embed method have usage on Arabic fonts)

And a musical question
When I made my tests I load everytime the Test_DV movie and my wife who heard the music about 100 times wondering which is the song included in the movie, its pretty adhesive.

Thanks again the creators for their continued working.

Allow me please use my first post also as an expression of my deepest gratitude to everyone behing CasparCG. I was thrilled when I first discovered this "project" I believe that "SVT" tech. team created something absolutely amazing and sharing it with public makes me speechless.

I'm talking for many saying THANK YOU!

Finally I had chance to test only basic functions but so far the generator seems flawless:
os: OSX 10.7.3
sw: Adobe Flash Professional CS5 (11.0.2.489)

One little thing however, deleting older generator removes Caspar's templates as well.
I found them quite helpful and pleasant to work with so if you miss them, double check that you've kept older generator installed as well ;)

Good idea! Since that is a Flash Player bug, I'm assuming that the new release of Template Generator hasn't made it go away.

The source code for Template Generator is available in the SVN, so if anyone that needs right-to-left text can provide a fix, we're happy to incorporate it.

Since SVT doesn't have a use for this feature, it won't get listed very high on our priority list. Sorry about that...

That's strange, they should be stored in a file called "TemplateGeneratorServers.settings".

If you are running windows 7 the file should be located here:

C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Adobe\Flash CS5\en_US\Configuration\WindowSWF

Are you running a non-english version of Flash? What OS?

Im runnning Enlish Flash CS 5.5 on Norwegian OSX 10.6.7.

I had to do the language hack to get things installed the right way. I find the settings-file you meniton, but nothing is saved here. Can I alter some other file to update any reference to this file, or do you have to compile another SWF to make changes?

Update: If I manually edit the settings file, the new profiles is upated. But still I can't save from the generator. Maybe some kind of permissions error? Trying chmod 777 now. Well, that didn't work either.

Re: CasparCG Template Generator 2.0 released

Hm, that is strange. The generator can load the file but can't write to it.

The only difference I can find is that the file is referenced as

fl.configURI + "/WindowSWF/TemplateGeneratorServers.settings

when saving and only

TemplateGeneratorServers.settings when loaded. Might be an issue with osx here somehow.

I'll create an issue on it.

Is there a way to download the old version of FT generator? FT generator version 1.8 and Flash CS4 always worked for me, can't get the new stuff to work, always gives me compile errors or javascript error (CS5.5, CS6). Yeah and I too have the same problem with Caspar flash templates not showing up in version 2.0 :( The new generator is super cool though, I just can't compile ft's with it.

If no-one reports a problem, the problem will never get fixed. Your post is the first mention of a problem with CasparCG Template Generator 2.0.

Do you want free software that is problem-free? A simple bug report isn't too much to ask, is it? ;)

Thanks a million didikunz! The new 2.0 generator (running on CS6 and CS4) just gives me a javascript error when I compile with no explanation, maybe there's a report somewhere in the back-- But the log is just blank, so there's nothing to report really. I have yet to try and compile some of the example templates as a baseline test.

My Adobe CS setup might be wonky, I've been cleaning out newer installs with CS cleaner and re-installing CS4 and then re-installing CS6 - So maybe it's just me and my stupid setup :D And BTW thanks for the free software and all your hard work!

Re: CasparCG Template Generator 2.0 released

That is a report actually, it means that it breaks somewhere in the jsfl, and since javaScript is absolutely terrible to work with, especially when it comes to debugging, it could be anything from file permissions to configuration errors.

What would help me in this search is to know exactly what is outputted in the output window. Is it only "A javascript error occured" or is there some reference to a line of code? Is something outputted before the error?

What version of osx are you running?

Do the template generator fail on both cs4 and cs6?

Is the template using a custom document class or is this field left blank?

Can you use the other functions, such as playing out a template/video in the panel?

Would be great if you could answer these questions, it would help me to get a final version out with good osx support!

Re: CasparCG Template Generator 2.0 released

I'm having the same problems with generator 2.0 in CS5.5 and CS6. It reports javascript errors. No more information to trace, and no pattern in when i happens. Some times at first attempt, some times after 2-5 successfull exports. When the javascript error is throwed the first time, it will never do another successful export until restart.

And: The old language-bug with installation in wrong locale-folder (norwegian OS and english CS) is still there.

Re: CasparCG Template Generator 2.0 released

Update: Template generator now generating fine after every Flash Pro restart. The first time everything work, but at the next export it traces "The following JavaScript error(s) occurred:" with a blank line beneath.

And: If you forget to put in author name, a similar error is traced. The same way; after having one error thrown, you can't export again before restarting.

Re: CasparCG Template Generator 2.0 released

It's really annoying that the javascript can't point to a specific line. I'll guess I have to trace every line in brew.jsfl to get some info out of this.

First I have to recreate the problem, so I will look for a mac and then I'll try install template generator on cs5.5.

By the way, the language bug has to be fixed by adobe, nothing I can do, sorry. But it works if you install it from within flash.

jespers wrote:Any way I can help in debugging? Brew is editable/dynamic, right?
EDIT: Make sure to make a local backup of brew before editing!

That would be great! Unfortunately this is a hard one to debug so i guess it would be a lot of trial and error. The file is called "brew2_0.jsfl" and is inside a folder called "WindowSWF", exactly where depends on OS so you'll have to search.

The file contains JavaScript that targets the Flash IDE. API can be found here: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/flash/cs/extend/index.html

The code is executed line by line starting on the "generate" function which is called from Template Generator when the generate template button is pressed.

You can use

Code: Select all

output.trace("My trace message " + myVariable + "...");
to write text to the output window.

My theory is that something goes wrong on the first time you try to generate a template and then the script is stuck somehow for further execution. So probably you would still get only "A javascript error occured" even if you trace something on the first line in generate(), but hopefully I am wrong.. That would make it much easier to find the error.

It would also be of high interest to find a pattern when and how the error manifests. Can you avoid it somehow? (e.g. by enabling copy template to server). Is it only present on cs 5.5+? Is it only present on osx?

These are all question I need to find answers for so if you can help me answering some of them it would be of great help!

Hi,

I'm new to CasparCG.

The first step was to install template generator 2.0, I did it, and I can see 'Caspar CG Template Generator' installed and enabled in Adobe extension manager, but I'm not offered CasparCG Templates when creating new file. Also, I can't see "Template Generator" option in Windows -> Other Panels.

I'm using Flash CS4 Professional, Windows 7 64-bit.

The latest beta version didn't include any document presets, unfortunately. I'll poke Andreas about putting them back there, but you can just create a document at the final (square pixel) size of your output (Flash gets slow if you scale everything in real-time.)
toderek wrote:Also, I can't see "Template Generator" option in Windows -> Other Panels.
That's a language bug caused by using different languages for Flash and your OS. Please install the "Template Generator MXP" from inside Flash Professional by choosing Help -> Manage Extensions.

We are trying to release Andreas of a bunch of work so he'll be able to fix bugs in TemplateGenerator.

Having to restart TG after each template in CS6 is a known bug.

If you are getting JavaScript errors, please post a bug report in the bug tracker and attach the FLA, because haven't been able to reproduce these errors yet.

Re: CasparCG Template Generator 2.0 released

I am getting the same "The following JavaScript error(s) occurred:" printed twice with no error message that aircooled76 posted. It doesn't seem to matter what fla file is being used.

To be clear the only solution I have found is closing and reopening Flash.

My AS3 is a little rusty, but I have downloaded the source and I will see what I can figure out.

Re: CasparCG Template Generator 2.0 released

Andreas: What is the idea behind changing the document to enable revert? Can the bug be related to this?
I also noticed that on my OSX CS6 installation the generated settings files are located at:

Code: Select all

en_us/windowSWF
all alone, but the rest of the generator is inside

Code: Select all

en_us/Cofiguration/windowSWF

Also, everything else in config is inside Configuration, so the settings placement outside is "wrong". But I see the files are being read and written, so I guess if every reference to settings go to the same place, then everything is in order.

Hello everyone!

I'm sorry that you are having trouble with the template generator. It was developed for Flash cs5 running windows xp and now we are running win 7 without issues. It seems that the issues with the javascript error mainly occurs on cs6 and on osx. Unfortunately, as Jonas mentioned, I am a very busy man. Trust me, I really love working with caspar, and I have big plans for future versions. Getting the template generator back up on it's feet is of course my number one priority, and since there will be no time left for me this year I will try to solve this, with help from jespers, on my spare time. I will start a new thread named "Fixing template generator" where further discussions will be made.
