Thread will not be cleaned, we don't do that.

Before moving on, I will just remind of one (the) point some posts above. Merging is one thing, and that's just a bonus. But as Helge says: regardless of merging, the source code needs to be open sourced in any case. You can't alter the original source code and publish a binary without the source.

Keep up your good work, let's continue having an exciting discussion about features and technical solutions.

Just one small point here. The community is providing you with CasparCG which enables you to do your project, for free. In my opinion, a small amount of decency and less hostile attitude would be appropriate.

CEHMYPB wrote:1. I discussed a lot of things with other developers when just uploaded my first modifications. And I made everything they told me. Moreover, I've discussed merging my changes with some of developers before but 2.0.7 stable was already released and there was no chance to merge it. So, I don't see any reason to be suspected in anything.

The fact of the matter is that you publicly released modified binaries several months ago and still have not released the source code, as required by the license. Even though you have several times been very politely urged, by different people, to do so.

Merging is a totally unrelated topic. Though much appreciated, there is no requirement from the license for you to put even the smallest amount of effort into merging and is no prerequisite for publishing source code.

CEHMYPB wrote:2. When I talk that I plan something, it means that I haven't done it yet. It's normal, isn't it? So, "Which means that you haven't done it yet" is needless to answer.

At this point, no one really cares about what you promise. What you do is much more interesting. Words have no value. Again, you are already several months late with publishing the source code.

CEHMYPB wrote:If anyone suspects me in anything - it's up to you. I don't plan to change your mind.
I gave you my word that I'll try to merge changes to 2.1 when I have enough time to make it the best way, and I don't understand what you try to achieve with all this posts. Do you want me to change my mind? I don't think so. That's why I don't think it is a place for all this posts.

There is nothing to suspect. There are only facts.

Whether you change your mind or not is irrelevant. Maybe we change our minds and make changes in the source code that totally breaks your project. Maybe we close all threads related to your project? Maybe we create a blacklist listing all people/companies that are in violation with the license?

What we try to achieve is to hopefully get you to publish the source code and become an active and appreciated member of the community.

CEHMYPB wrote:If anyone can clean this thread, do it please, or it will die in this debate, while there were a lot of unanswered questions, unsolved problems and discussions before...

If you published the source code then this discussion would stop.

I don't like where this is going. Please guys, do what's best for the project. We are a lot of people rooting for Anton (CEHMYPB) to keep up the good work he's doing building the openslomo. We need a cost-effective instant replay solution.

Please Anton keep working on the openslomo as hard as you wish, but don't stop here, and please please share the code :)))

Yes, the point is valid, but we don't need the an heated tone in this forum.

Please Anton, we encourage you to continue, just honour the license. Thank you all.

Maybe I have to print out the whole debate and read again multiple to understand what exactly happen. My englich is not so good to understand all details while reading at the screen.

But my 2 cents....

I am amater and I don't have the money to invest in more expensive systems. I want to support my sports and my club. I was so lucky, when I found CasparCG and I really like it as it is. A free project, which gives me the ability to insert professional graphics into video. So a big "Thaaaaank yooooouuuuu " to the developers and all helpful people hier in forum.

One of these helpful people has developed a CasparCG based system, which allows slow motions. A big "Hurrah / Jippe" from all the people who wants to support their sports and their clubs like me.

All could be so fine. So please find a way to work together. What exactly must happen to force a common work ? If the open-slomo-server-code could be published, more people could help to keep this system alive and actual to "normal" server version. I know this community for working together and helping each other.

Public code also would give other people the possibility to create own clients for their own needs and wouls produce some new ideas.

Surely I can do this. But it seems to be more correct to use some Extreme card with internal keyer for this purpose. Or I'm wrong?

You could, but in my case i'm using the playout with an external switcher. The switcher is playing the transition between channels, or just dissolving, as needed. Honestly it's a fairly minor request, and just brings it closer to a product like the NewTek 3Play that's a 4-in / 2-out system. I have a box built to try out this project, just haven't had time to actually get it running!

Hi all,
Did something change with speed commands?
I can't play video backwards. If I send for example, CALL 1 SPEED -1, it plays at normal speed (the same is with SPEED -2 etc.)
Did I missed something?

Excited about this great software development!
I'm interested to start using the OpenSloMo as replay unit on sport events. 3Play is also an option.
What I would like to know, before I start investing in a new full blown HP machine with 4 SDI inputs.
Is this software mature enough to already use on Live events? Or is a bit too soon? One of the upcoming events is a 24h race. We need to 'replay' action while the event is going, & add the best moments into a playlist which will be modified and updated to playback about every hour.
Please advise.

I think it's too early for an event of this size. There is an other option, beside 3Play: http://lgztech.com/lgz1-hd-sd

OpenSloMo is not quite ready for live yet. I know the original developer is using for live, but it's his software, and he can work around issues that may arise. As an end user like we would be, it's a bit frustrating.

I'm using Vmix 15 Instant Replay on air with very few problems ... It's a fully operational 60 day trail, so it's well worth the look.

Thanks I'll try that in the mean time.
Does it also needs a second card to output HD-SDI? Or can it use one BM Quad card by using the 4 inputs, and 2 outputs from that same card?

It can be configured as 3 in 1 out if i recall correctly. I'm using a BMD quad and a 4k Extreme in the box, so i've never tried.

I want to inform you that I have updated original Jan Starzak's MAV work:
- included all changes from official CasparCG Server GIT repository from 2.0 branch,
- updated libjpeg-turbo library,
- added OSC support for consumers to allow monitoring of replay consumer through OSC.

As always everything is available on my GitHub fork:

What a great addition! Thanks @krzyc, for giving back to the community! I have merged your updates with the casparcg-mav repo, so that if someone has branched of from it he can easily sync with your updates. I'll also added a link there to your release page so that it's easier to find the binaries. I've also given you write access to the casparcg-mav GitHub repository, so if you'd like, you can push your changes there.

What a great addition! Thanks for the work! One question: Is it possible to record and playback audio (embedded to video) with the MAV version also? If yes, so it's time for me to develop a client for this version.

Cheers

Audio is recorded, but playback is not done yet. I will try to fix it as soon as I will have some free time.

I want to announce new pre-releases of MAV server and simple client.

CasparCG 2.0.7_MAV_5
Changes: allow resetting length by passing CALL [channel] LENGTH 0, fix crash when playing above replay length, changes to OSC: file/frame returns real frame numbers; file/vframe returns virtual frame numbers based on SEEK/LENGTH.

CasparCG MAV Client 0.1-alpha
This is quick and dirty client based on Qt framwork (cross-platform) that can control MAV server. License: GPLv3.

Good morning. First sorry for my English .

I'm working on a system of recording / rep 4-channel and 2 outputs . This is possible this great system , very good work and many thanks .

This 80% , but I have a problem when shooting in 1080i50 . The reproduction is not stable.

You need to specify any special parameters ?

I work on a QuadCore i7 with 64GB RAM and SSD in RAID0 . The disk speed test gave me in writing 900 mbs reading.

Hi, I tried this version of CasparCG, it's very good job, these options are very useful ! However I have a bug when I record 1080i5000 or 720p5000 signal, when I playback, after 2 seconds, the video speed up maybe x3 or x5 ... :/

I don't know if it is same problem than Ricardo ? Any ideas ?

Thanks for reading

EDIT

I finally found the problem, I removed this line in the config file :

Code: Select all
<auto-mode>true</auto-mode>

EDIT 2

I don't understand, the problem is back ...

So I open Diag view and I can see that at the start of the capture replay :
Image

So that explain my problem, whenI start playing, first seconds have a correct speed but after 2 seconds the playback speed up, I suppose this is due to dropped-frames as you can see on the graph, so I lose about 1 / 2 frames so It is normal the playback speed is x2.

Do you have any idea about this issue ? Hardware limit ? Configuration ? Bug ? This is a 1080i5000 input but I tried with a 720p5000, it's the same result.

My PC :
Intel core i7 950
Nvidia GTX295
8 Gb Ram
SSD ocz vertex 4 128Go
Decklink quad
Windows 10 pro

Current compilation is probably using libjpeg from FreeImage instead of libjpeg-turbo. Please try replacing 4 files with inculded in https://github.com/krzyc/CasparCG-Server/releases/download/2.0.7_MAV_5/update.zip and tell me whether it has any impact on performance.

I will try to look into this issues when I have some free time and access to target machine.
Please always include information about which version of Server you are using when reporting bugs.

Thanks for your reply, my version was the last one 2.0.7_MAV_5, I replaced the files as you mentioned, but it is always the same, I also tried to reduce quality and subsampling, but nothing really better :/

Here is the log file of my last try :

I can notice an error
[2015-12-05 17:03:21.499] [11932] [error] JPEG version: 62
but nothing else...
I seem to be the only one to have this kind of problem, maybe it's a hardware issue, I will try to find a fresh PC with an intel xeon to try.

Thanks for your work !

Still bad version of libjpeg was used - probably from SFML. :( I have released another update in https://github.com/krzyc/CasparCG-Serve ... pdate2.zip - now it should print "error" with version 80 and finally libjpeg-turbo should be used.

I want to announce a new pre-releases of MAV server - fixed (thanks for reports), optimised and with initial audio support - unfortunately I am not familiar with audio so I don't know how to handle speed conversions and reversing of samples - now samples are attached to frames one-to-one and when speed is at fraction sound is not active at all - if you have any hints how audio should be handled I will be happy to read it - maybe (probably) CasparCG already uses library that can handle it properly...

CasparCG 2.0.7_MAV_6
Changes: fixed dependencies - now libjpeg-turbo should always be used (libjpeg version will be logged for debug purposes); optimize RGB-BGRA conversions (libjpeg-turbo in consumer, updated GL shader in producer); initial audio support (PLAY channel filename AUDIO 1 / CALL channel AUDIO 1) - does not work with fractional speeds; codebase update from original repository and libjpeg-turbo update.

AFAIK audio is not very important during slow motion playback. So simply muting it will do in 99% of the cases.

Hi krzyc, adding audio support is a very good news ! Also, using libjpeg-turbo solves my problem too, thank you ! I will try this new version as soon as possible ;)

Else, I have a question about playback of a replay : When I play a "normal file" and I call INFO I got this :
Code: Select all
...
<file-frame-number>464</file-frame-number>
<file-nb-frames>164512</file-nb-frames>
...

But when I play a "Replay mav" file I can't access the <file-nb-frames> value, neither in OSC. So I was wondering if it is complicated to implement this ? That can be useful to manage playplack with a slidebar to have the end of file for example.

Have a good day

I do not know why OSC does not give you this kind of info, because I am using it in my client and it works with current version (https://github.com/krzyc/CasparCG-MAV-Client). There are frame (real frame in file) and vframe (frame calculated after seek and length) fields.

I have not used INFO so it was not touched - here comes updated executable that mimics INFO from ffmpeg.

Exact, I just retry and OSC give me all I want ! So I don't know what I did yesterday... I was probably tired !

Thanks

Please replace executable from last release (MAV 6) with https://github.com/krzyc/CasparCG-Serve ... pdate2.zip because of serious memory leak which after some time can fill up all available memory.

We have developed a slow motion server based on the MAV version. You can watch our client on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GLgH-cus0I

We have also developed a Boxing Client designed for the upcoming SAF Games 2016 ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBVlcfTeZyQ )

Both are still under-going trials.

I have added support for slow motion audio playback and modified replay module to compile against 64-bit 2.1 CasparCG branch. Happy testing. :)

Version 2.0.7:
https://github.com/krzyc/CasparCG-Serve ... .0.7_MAV_7
Version 2.1.0:
https://github.com/krzyc/CasparCG-Serve ... .1.0_MAV_7

EDIT: Please use executable from update.zip for fixed seeking and stable frames at start and end.

Hi, I have tried your lasted 64bits version 2.1.0, and it works fine with the default config file, but if I add OSC support, the server crash. Here logs :

Any ideas about this error ? Are there any changes about config file in new version ?
Also, I saw some new line
Code: Select all
    <tcp>
      <port>3250</port>
      <protocol>LOG</protocol>
    </tcp>

What's this protocol ?

EDIT

I also notice a little bug in the Server 2.0.7.47c25cf Stable MAV 6 , when I playback at speed -20 and arrived at the beginning of the mav file I got an error and the playback bug :

And when I play speed 20, at end of file, playback doesn't stop and play reverse :)

Thanks !

Re: CasparCG-based MAV/EVS replacement [BETA]

Postby krzyc » 26 Dec 2015, 19:42

1. There is "upstream" miswriting - predefined-client is in source code called predefined_client - I have proposed a fix for that issue (https://github.com/CasparCG/Server/pull/404).
2. As I can see from sources, LOG is undocumented feature which allows remote log monitoring - it was commited with following description: "Implemented a TCP server, simply sending every log line to the remote client. If using the default casparcg.config it will listen on 3250. Any data sent by the client is ignored."
3. [EDIT] Seeking was messed up - I have cleaned/rewritten it and also made sure that first and last frames are stable in interlaced modes. I have attached update.zip to both relases so you can update your version - in 2.1 also predefined-client config parameter is fixed.

And one time, server shut down without error.. 64bits version is probably too instable for now, so I continue to work with the Server 2.0.7.47c25cf Stable MAV 6 32bits

About this one, I continue to test, and I noticed a few small bug :
- If I seek +1 OSC jumps 2 frames forward, next seek +1 jumps 1 frame, next it jumps 2 and so on. And seek -1 jumps 1 frame back, next 0 frame next, 1 frame and so on. But each seek gives me a different image even if osc doesn't move.

- If I play a mav file with a speed 0 and seek 0 it doesn't show me the first frame.
PLAY 5-0 CH4_151228145424_CAM4 SPEED 0 SEEK 0 LENGTH 0

But if I play with a seek value bigger than 0 it's ok. And if I do "CALL 5 SEEK 0" it's ok too.

- If I play a replay file with a LENGTH value, it stops when it arrived at the length, but sometimes if I change the speed parameter, it doesn't stop and continue playing.

- When I do this request I got an error, it's not a problem for me because that work perfectly, but it's just strange to have an error

- When I play at speed faster than 1 (for example 20) and use a grid mixer, I got interlaced effect :
Image
But there is no problem if I don't use a grid mixer.

- Finally, I don't know if it's normal or not, but if I play with a Wipe transition, LEFT or RIGHT direction doesn't change the direction (it's always Left) but I think this is not due to MAV implementation because it's the same behavior when I play a .AVI file.

If you need other informations, don't hesitate. All that are suggestions, the current version is already pretty good enough for my needs, so take your time !

Great thanks ;)

Hi Krzyc, I have a question about the replay producer of the last version "2.0.7.3bfa8f5 Stable MAV 6 Release"

I capture a 1080i5000 video and when I playback at speed 1, it takes about 10% CPU (output on a decklink card 1080i5000), but when I playback at a speed between 0.4 and 0.7 for example, the consumption of CPU become bigger about 25-30%, so I was wondering if it's a normal behavior ?

Config :
i7 6700k 4-core 4Ghz
Nvidia Quadro k2200
16 Go RAM
Windows 10 64bits

It's totally expected behavior. Normal-speed playback is well optimized and very simple. Slow motion playback requires extrapolating fields to frames and blending them in a relatively unoptimized process.

I just want to throw another product into the pot here.

Totally unrelated to casparcg, in fact its Linux.

https://github.com/exavideo/exacore

Whilst wating for the casparcg replay to progress I have been trying the others I can find.

The exacore requires a framebuffer, shuttlepro2 and decklink cards.

It seems to be written in Ruby and C++. It doesn't look like the original author has given it much time in the last couple of years but I believe it has massive potential if it could be developed.

I've had replay working great with a decklink quad for inputs and a decklink mini monitor for SDI out. That's another requirement, SDI out.

Hi DigitalDaz,

we were asking ourselfs, if we should consider your post as SPAM. It's a bit off topic and you use your first post in this forum to point to something else. That is a bit werid. Do you think, that you have anything more Caspar related to say in the future?

I certainly didn't consider it spam :)

The reason it is my first post is I did specifically register to make that post as I believed it would potentially be very helpful to those who have been following this for what seems a long time. I've certainly been watching the thread myself for a while. I'll make a post in the introduce yourself thread.

New release. In 2.0 there should be no changes, but 2.1 contains all upstream fixes and finally compiles under linux. For linux compatibility it uses lower-case file extensions now. Happy testing. :)

Thumbnail generator does not work with MAV files. AMB is casparcg test file and TEST1 is MAV file.
I use latest 2.0.7 version.

Sorry my bad English.
I'm at the cottage and the weather is so bad, so I thought to make a control program for MAV server. A long time ago I made slowdowns and highlights 1 "Ampex VPR-2 video recorder. I watched the EVS and 3Play brochures and copy from them all possible functions and buttons. Next I will add keyboard shortcuts and plan slo-mo controller like the EVS LSM. My son has 3D a printer so I can get done at least great shelling.

So, another try to make CCG MAV Client - I hope it will be production ready sometime soon.
But it is huge task for one person, and many such projects fail at some point of time.
So maybe someone want to start GPL (or MIT) licensed project (or maybe dual licensed OSS + propertiary) which after being published on site like GitHub can get some attention from CCG community.
In my opinion such project should be portable (Windows, macOS and Linux) like server part.
I think that C++ and Qt framework are good for this purpose (like official CCG Client).

If you want to look at my quick and dirty frontend, it is on https://github.com/krzyc/CasparCG-MAV-Client

PS. Server part also needs some attention - if you have any issues or requests feel free to post it here - I currently have no need to work on this project, so it will probably motivate me to spend some time on it. ;)

Thanks krzyc, it a shame to see this not progressing very much when clearly so much time and effort has been put into it already.

And to Aston, thanks, I did manage to download the client.

I would first like to thank jstar and krzyc good work.
We have been using a program already in production. The use of the program has been mainly instant replay. We had this situation because of other similar programs were unstable and there is no client for good MAV/EVS Server.
Our program is not so professional, but it suited our purpose.
I've added new features: 3 channel recording, I added a keyboard shortcuts and a VTR gang roll feature. I can change on the fly three-channel viewing angle.

I added a new one button marking operations. For example, you can add mark when you see goal , application automatically calculates in and out points. Each cue mark button has different info text and in/out points value.

Hello there,

From what I can see, there is a significant need for a replay client with available sources, so if anyone's interested, I have put up on GitHub my own Slow Motion Controller app. It's built in C# and currently supports: 3 Input channels and a single output channel. It uses the grid output as a multiviewer - in order for it to work, you need to place the contents of the "media" folder from the release binary into your CasparCG "media" folder. There are multiple keybindings for various actions (you can see a complete list here: https://github.com/jstarpl/slow-motion- ... -shortcuts). The package also contains a sample preset for Contour ShuttlePRO v2 (in/out points are left/right buttons, shuttle/scrub works as expected, top-bottom row is speed, top-top row is playback control, bottom-left buttons are up/down).

There is also a sample CasparCG config file in the GitHub repository main directory where you can find how the CasparCG should be configured.

The client records deckink inputs from cards 1-3, so make sure your PGM channel (channel 4) is set up with a decklink consumer at Decklink 4 or above.

Image

This software is already being used in production, but I am sure there are still plenty of bugs, so any help is appreciated.

You can download the sourcecode at GitHub: https://github.com/jstarpl/slow-motion-controller, you will find the binaries here: https://github.com/jstarpl/slow-motion-controller/releases
