casparCG+tricaster. Problems with IVGA connection.

Postby sark » 20 Jul 2015, 17:30

Hello,
Unfortunately I've faced with problems in very simple task. Our tricaster 8000 doesn't see our CasparCG server over IVGA. But IVGA connection is ok if we're using IVGApro. This means that this is not a network problem.
Сould you clarify please, what can affect on this problem?

Hi sark,

Make sure you added the newtek-ivga consumer in your casparcg.config (it is not enabled by default)...
Example:
Code: Select all
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<configuration>
  <paths>
    <media-path>media\</media-path>
    <log-path>log\</log-path>
    <data-path>data\</data-path>
    <template-path>templates\</template-path>
    <thumbnails-path>thumbnails\</thumbnails-path>
  </paths>
  <channels>
    <channel>
        <video-mode>PAL</video-mode>
        <consumers>
          <screen>
            <device>1</device>
          </screen>
          <system-audio />
          <newtek-ivga />
        </consumers>
    </channel>
  </channels>
  <controllers>
    <tcp>
        <port>5250</port>
        <protocol>AMCP</protocol>
    </tcp>
  </controllers>
</configuration>

I've tried to do this in many options but it looks like i do something wrong.
I guess, that a configurator could help, but i cannot find it. :(

is this syntax correct?

Code: Select all
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<configuration>
  <paths>
    <media-path>media\</media-path>
    <log-path>log\</log-path>
    <data-path>data\</data-path>
    <template-path>templates\</template-path>
    <thumbnails-path>thumbnails\</thumbnails-path>
  </paths>
  <channels>
    <channel>
        <video-mode>NTSC</video-mode>
        <consumers>
          <screen>
           <device>1</device>
          </screen>
         <newtek-ivga>
              <channel-layout>stereo [mono|stereo|dts|dolbye|dolbydigital|smpte|passthru]</channel-layout>
              <provide-sync>true [true|false]</provide-sync>
            </newtek-ivga>
<system-audio />
        </consumers>
    </channel>
  </channels>
  <controllers>
    <tcp>
        <port>5250</port>
        <protocol>AMCP</protocol>
    </tcp>
  </controllers>
</configuration>

Hi sark,

this is clearly wrong.
You just pasted the example and usage part of the config with all it's possible values.

Wrong:
Code: Select all
         <newtek-ivga>
              <channel-layout>stereo [mono|stereo|dts|dolbye|dolbydigital|smpte|passthru]</channel-layout>
              <provide-sync>true [true|false]</provide-sync>
            </newtek-ivga>

RIght:
Code: Select all
         <newtek-ivga>
              <channel-layout>stereo</channel-layout>
              <provide-sync>true</provide-sync>
            </newtek-ivga>

Code: Select all
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<configuration>
  <paths>
    <media-path>media\</media-path>
    <log-path>log\</log-path>
    <data-path>data\</data-path>
    <template-path>templates\</template-path>
    <thumbnails-path>thumbnails\</thumbnails-path>
  </paths>
  <channels>
    <channel>
        <video-mode>NTSC</video-mode>
        <consumers>
          <screen>
           <device>1</device>
          </screen>
         <newtek-ivga>
              <channel-layout>stereo</channel-layout>
              <provide-sync>true</provide-sync>
            </newtek-ivga>
<system-audio />
        </consumers>
    </channel>
  </channels>
  <controllers>
    <tcp>
        <port>5250</port>
        <protocol>AMCP</protocol>
    </tcp>
  </controllers>
</configuration>

Beside the config, it helps if you could provide the log in code tags, too.

cheers

Have you read in the system requirements, that you need to download a dll from NewTek's website?

Sure, I've seen: For NewTek TriCaster iVGA support, please download and install the following driver: NewTek iVGA driver. There is an exe file from Newtek. Sure, I installed it.

if i understand the log correctly, IVGA is not connected but successfully initialized.

Hi,

In The Logs, it seems that iVGA is correctly set up...

So, tries playing the iVGA stream by using VLC instead of the Tricaster, like this:
http://<casparcg_ip>:49480/AirSend.mpg

Hi sark,

So, the VLC log reveals that there is no stream from iVGA !!!....

After looking more accurately your Caspar logs it seem that there is something wrong:

- warnings on lines 110 and 121:
[warning] Assertion Failed: air_send_ file:consumer\newtek_ivga_consumer.cpp line:99

- error on lines 117 and 131:
[error] Throw location unknown (consider using BOOST_THROW_EXCEPTION)
Dynamic exception type: class boost::exception_detail::clone_impl<class boost::unknown_exception>
std::exception::what: Unknown exception
class caspar::win32_access_violation

I do not know what is the meaning of the error... but the warning is clearly related to iVGA...

At this point I have no idea about what to do to solve your issue...
Perhaps you could try to erase the file C:\Windows\system32\Processing.AirSend.x86.dll and reinstall the NewTek Network Video Send.exe from http://new.tk/NetworkSendRedist and see if that help...
Also in your caspar.config tries to set the newtek-ivga the simplest way (it works for me):
Code: Select all
<newtek-ivga />

instead of:
Code: Select all
<newtek-ivga>
  <channel-layout>stereo</channel-layout>
  <provide-sync>true</provide-sync>
</newtek-ivga>

How knows :/

Code: Select all
win32_access_violation
could be a problem with privileges.
Maybe the process is not allowed to open the port? That could be caused be insufficient rights or because it is in use already.

But it could also be a coding error in the iVGA module provided by NewTek.

cheers

Were you able to solve this issue? I'm running into the exact same problem now with one of the machines I'm working on.

I gave up trying to solve this issue a while back, but had some free time and tackled it again. I think I've solved it.

AirSend/iVGA does not accept or recognize the NTSC resolution that Caspar is sending it. Any other video format works fine (PAL, 720, 1080, etc..), but trying to use an iVGA consumer on an NTSC channel throws this error. I hadn't bothered to try another format until yesterday, since I needed to send NTSC and was convinced that it was something else causing the error.

Newtek's SDK makes mention that the resolution must be divisible by 8, which 540 and 486 are, of course, not. I assume that's why it doesn't accept the NTSC format from Caspar.

I'm sure there aren't many of us that have a need to send NTSC to a TriCaster, so probably not a huge deal. If I could get this particular studio to upgrade to HD (it's a high school with limited resources), I wouldn't have a need, either.

I don't know Tricaster, therefore a probably stupid question: Would it possible to scale the iVGA graphics from, let's say 720p down to SD?

The TriCaster will scale its inputs to whatever output format you choose, I believe. I'm sending 720p to it now, but since all of the templates they use are 4:3, I'm having to scale them to 16:9, which isn't that big a deal really.

So in short, yes. You can send it a 720p or 1080p stream and have the TriCaster scale it down.

When you do the AirSend updater make sure that it updates the dll in the WOW64 directory, that was the cause if this issue I just had on a new build.
do a search for "airsend" on your C drive and make sure they are all the new date. If not just copy and paste a new one in its place.
Processing.AirSend.x86.dll
Processing.AirSend.x64.dll
